Distribution. Cosmopolitan. Origin of S. granarius is disputable. It might be from so called Fertile Crescent (West Asia), an area of native distribution of wheat and rye species and origin of its agriculture ca. 10000 yr BP (Tanno & Willcox 2006; Plarre 2010) and introduced since then worldwide with grains (Lyal 2011).
