DEFINITION AND CHARACTERISTICS OF RELATIVE ADJECTIVES

Abstract

Relative adjectives are an important category in the language system, performing a unique function of describing the qualities and properties of objects through their connection with other objects or phenomena. Unlike absolute adjectives, which convey unchangeable characteristics, relative ones are associated with the context and can change their meaning depending on the situation. Their ability to convey precise and detailed descriptions gives the language flexibility and richness, allowing it to more fully reflect the complex realities of the surrounding world. The relevance of studying relative adjectives is due to their importance in modern linguistic research. Systematization and understanding of their functions are important aspects for the academic study of language, contributing to the development of cognitive linguistics and related disciplines. Research in this area is aimed at a deeper understanding of the cognitive and semantic functions of these adjectives, as well as identifying their role in the language process and description of objects. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the significance of relative adjectives in terms of their historical development and cognitive functions. Attention is paid to how the concept of relative adjectives has developed and changed throughout history, as well as how modern research allows us to understand their role in the structure of language. As part of the study, a classification of these adjectives is proposed, taking into account such criteria as semantics, function, material, purpose and origin.
