Mejoramiento animal: diferenciando procedimientos

Abstract

En los últimos años, el debate sobre el mejoramiento humano ha dado pie a discutir sobre los alcances del mejoramiento animal. En esta naciente discusión se hace uso de diversos conceptos para referir al proceso de modificación tecnológica de los animales. En este artículo se procura brindar una definición más precisa de dichos conceptos, principalmente los de mejoramiento animal, elevación animal (animal uplift), aumento animal (animal augmentation) y desmejoramiento animal (animal disenhancement). Para ello se revisó la literatura disponible y se analizaron los objetivos e intereses subyacentes a cada uno. Finalmente se concluye que estos términos, aunque similares, refieren a distintos tipos de modificaciones tecnológicas.
