Nutrition in Disease of Musculoskeletal System

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders comprise more than 150 disorders that generally affect the locomotor system. These range from non-persistent ones that suddenly occur such as fractures, sprains and injuries to those lasting for lifetime such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthropathy. Nutrition plays an important role in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases due to its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and immune system supportive effects. While nutrition plays a role in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, it can also lead to the development of these diseases. While some foods have the feature of increasing inflammation in the body, others have a decreasing effect. Therefore, dietary recommendations should be taken into consideration in the treatment of diseases such as osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthropathy. Proper nutrition can support the treatment of patients with serious problems such as arthritis, especially pain, by preventing nutritional deficiencies that are the basis for both the reduction of inflammatory levels in the body and the development of some musculoskeletal diseases. Some foods can contribute to the treatment of osteoarthritis and tendon pathologies with their effects on pain pathways and receptors. Again, the positive effect of some foods on the immune system help patients as a supportive treatment, especially in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. © 2021 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc
