Raíces escolásticas del estado de naturaleza hobbesiano

Abstract

El artículo investiga el origen de la noción de "estado de naturaleza" a partir de un análisis del término acuñado por Hobbes. Tras una breve discusión del status questionis, que permite precisar su relación con los diversos "status" de la naturaleza humana según la teología escolástica de la época (1), se analiza el uso de los conceptos de "naturaleza pura" y de "condición natural del hombre" (y sus formas equivalentes) en la obra de Hobbes (2). A partir de este análisis, se argumenta que la noción hobbesiana surge de una alteración de la consideración del hombre "in puris naturalibus" de Tomás de Aquino por parte de la teología escolástica posterior a Trento (3), que la entiende como un nuevo "status" de la naturaleza humana, construido de modo abstractivo y con función hipotética, idéntico en su contenido con el "status" teológico de naturaleza caída y con el "status" histórico de ley natural.
