Diferencias por sexo en el procesamiento semántico de niños preescolares hablantes del español

Abstract

La evidencia de disociaciones debidas al sexo biológico en el desempeño en fluencias verbales exhibe resultados divergentes. Diversos estudios sostienen que el sexo femenino recupera más ejemplares en categorías de seres vivos, mientras que el masculino, en objetos inanimados. Estas diferencias fueron explicadas en función de una hipótesis que sustenta el peso de la evolución en la organización conceptual o bien a partir de intereses culturales diferentes de ambos sexos. Sin embargo, los estudios realizados con población infantil son escasos. El objetivo de la presente investigación es comparar el desempeño de niños y niñas de nivel preescolar en una tarea de fluencia verbal semántica, a fin de analizar si existen diferencias entre ambos sexos. Para esto, se recabaron datos de 13 categorías de los dominios semánticos de seres vivos y objetos inanimados. Los resultados obtenidos identificaron una diferencia significativa a favor de las niñas en seres vivos que se explica, sobre todo, por su mejor desempeño en la categoría partes del cuerpo. Asimismo, las niñas recuperaron una mayor cantidad de ejemplares en ropa, colores y utensilios de cocina. Estos hallazgos pueden ser explicados a partir del impacto temprano de la cultura en el procesamiento semántico y la organización conceptual.
