Makna Kidung Menurut Ulama Ahli Hikmah

Abstract

Abstract Kidung is a literary work in the form of a song that serves not only as entertainment but also as a means for spiritual practice, prayer, or worship. Kidung is part of Javanese culture and played a significant influence during the early spread of Islam in Java. This research was conducted to explain the kidung, whose verses are believed to possess spiritual power. The study employs a qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review. The results show that kidung serves as a medium for prayer, which philosophically means iki dungo (this is a prayer). Scholars of esoteric wisdom argue that the kidung created by earlier Islamic scholars during the propagation of Islam carry a very strong mystical nuance. This is because each creation was accompanied by tirakat (ascetic discipline) or mujahadah (spiritual struggle), intended so that anyone listening to their kidung would have their heart softened and melted, making it easier for them to accept the Islamic teachings being conveyed.
