Abstract

El envejecimiento de las personas con discapacidad intelectual es un fenómeno de generalización relativamente reciente que se ha visto favorecido por cambios en el estilo de vida, los avances en medicina, el mejor cuidado de la salud y la existencia de entornos más seguros que han posibilitado un incremento en la expectativa de vida. El objetivo central de este estudio es establecer el estado de la cuestión acerca del aprendizaje a lo largo de la vida adulta y en el proceso de envejecimiento de las personas con discapacidad intelectual previamente diagnosticada, especialmente dirigido a la detección de necesidades y propuestas de actuación en España. Los objetivos específicos son: describir la población de personas con DI en edad madura en nuestro entorno y sus procesos de envejecimiento, compilar las experiencias actuales de atención de este colectivo, especialmente en lo referido al aprendizaje permanente, y analizar las prácticas detectadas en comparación con las experiencias actuales de atención en otros colectivos de mayores y con experiencias internacionales. Destacar líneas clave de actuación para la mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas con discapacidad intelectual en edad madura.

Aging of people with intellectual disabilities is a relavely recient generalized phenomenon, that has being favored by changles in life stiles. Medical advanges, beter health care and safer environments have facilitated an increase in life expectancies. The main target of this study is elaborating a state of the art arround the life long learning in adulthood and aging process ind people with intellectual disabilities, specially focused on detection of needs in Spain. Specific targets are describing older people with ID in our environment and their aging processes, compiling actual experiences of work with this group of people, specially atending to lifelong learning, and analizing good practices, in rellation with international experiences and other older peopel experiencies. Finally the study tries to highlight key lines for intervention in the improving of quality of life of older people with intellectual disabilities.
