Abstract

Esta pesquisa investigou a eficacia da radiacao para inviabilizar os esporos da bacteria Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae,agente causal da “cria putrida americana” ou “loque americana”, enfermidade exotica no Brasil, que provoca um alto indice demortalidade em abelhas e que inviabiliza a comercializacao do mel. E uma doenca altamente contagiosa, que acarretagrandes prejuizos economicos aos produtores, podendo inclusive provocar embargos na exportacao do produto. Foramusadas amostras de 60g de mel contaminadas com esporos de P. larvae na concentracao de 3,5x103 esporos/mL. Apos oprocesso de radiacao gama com doses de 0; 5; 7,5; 10; 12,5 e 15kGy, em esquema de duplicata, as amostras foram submetidasa analises bacteriologicas para determinacao da fracao de esporos inviabilizada por cada tratamento. A aplicacao de 5,0kGyreduziu em 97,0±1,2% e 98,3±0,5% o numero de esporos viaveis, sendo a maior reducao correspondente ao mel menosviscoso, ao passo que doses superiores reduziram as concentracoes abaixo do limar de deteccao (5,5 esporos/mL).
