Abstract

Knjiga predstavlja iznimno važan doprinos suvremenim filozofskim i feminističkim raspravama jer sustavno preispituje mjesto Simone de Beauvoir u intelektualnoj povijesti 20. stoljeća. U vremenu u kojem su rasprave o rodu, subjektivnosti i političkoj emancipaciji ponovno u središtu teorijskih i javnih polemika, ova knjiga djeluje kao precizna i teorijski ambiciozna intervencija. Njezina je temeljna vrijednost u tome što Beauvoir ne tretira prvenstveno kao književnicu ili simbol drugovalnog feminizma, nego kao ravnopravnu sugovornicu strukturalizma, marksizma i psihoanalize. Recepcijski gledano, knjiga je osobito važna u kontekstu dugotrajne marginalizacije Beauvoir u »velikim narativima« francuske filozofije. Autorica argumentirano pokazuje da je izostavljanje Beauvoir iz kanona, uz imena poput Sartrea, Lévi-Straussa, Althussera ili Lacana, simptom šireg problema univerzalističkog pojma subjekta koji je povijesno bio maskiran kao rodno neutralan. Time knjiga otvara prostor za reviziju kanona i potiče daljnja istraživanja o ulozi filozofkinja u povijesti ideja.
