<div class="htmlview paragraph">Wise specification of dimensional tolerances for manufactured parts is becoming recognized by the industry as a key to being competitive. This paper describes a tolerance allocation methodology that is based on: statistical stack-up approach using Taylor's Series, manufacturing capability, and manufacturing costs. Application of this methodology can yield substantial cost savings, as is shown by a case study of engine compression ratio.</div>
