Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), was first developed to assess bone mass, however it also provides information on fat mass (FM) and fat-free mass (FFM) (Mazess et al., 1990) As such, the DXA is commonly used to assess body composition in both research and clinical practice Participants of this study will be scanned using the Lunar Prodigy (GE Lunar Corp, Madison, WI). The DXA machine is controlled by the computer which is loaded with enCORE software which will be used to scan acquisition and analysis.
