A Novel Free Boundary Problem-the Sauna

Abstract

Die Arbeit untersucht ein freies Randwertproblem im Zusammenhang mit einer parabolischen Gleichung mit unstetigen Koeffizienten und einer Inhomogenität, deren Sprung den freien Rand definiert; allerdings ist das System sehr unvollständig definiert und ist ohne eine andere Arbeit [\textit{R. M. Furzeland} and \textit{E. B. Hansen}, IMA J. Appl. Math. 34, 247-257 (1985; Zbl 0591.65088)] unverständlich. Diese andere Arbeit erklärt auch offenbar die Herkunft des Problems aus dem Beschlagen von Brillen in einer Sauna (deshalb etwas großspurig ``Saunaproblem''). Den Verfasser kümmert aber nur der theoretische Aspekt: Er beweist Existenz und Eindeutigkeit einer schwachen Lösung durch Regularisierung und anschließendem Grenzübergang ``Regularisierungsparameter \(\to 0\)''. Eindeutigkeit ergibt sich aus einer Art Energiegleichung. Anschließend werden noch einige Eigenschaften der schwachen Lösung gezeigt, z.B. Monotonie bzgl. der Zeit.
