Contained within the 3rd Edition (1957) of the Atlas of Canada is a map that shows a map of four condensed maps with proportions, medians, and institutions of education. The two upper maps indicate places in Canada where an institution of higher learning existed circa the 1958 publication date of this atlas plate. Locations where one or more degree granting universities or colleges existed (exclusive of those granting degrees in theology only) are shown. Locations where one or more other types of institutions of higher education that are affiliated with colleges, junior colleges, professional (including theological) training schools and technical institutes are indicated as well. These two maps are accompanied by a pie chart showing the percentage distribution of university and college enrolment by province for 1955 and a text listing degree granting institutions, exclusive of those granting degrees in theology only, for each province.
