Projetivismo, circularidade e o problema da atitude moral

Abstract

Uma tese projetivista sobre a natureza da moralidade, entendida em termos amplos, pretende explicar juízos morais a partir de reações causais subjetivas ao mundo – este, em si mesmo, desprovido de valor moral (em termos de objetos, propriedades e relações). Para que a tese projetivista funcione, parece ser necessário que ela seja capaz de especificar o(s) tipo(s) de reação(ões) subjetiva(s) que está(ão) na base de juízos morais e fazê-lo em termos não-morais, a fim de evitar circularidade. Se as reações subjetivas têm prioridade conceitual sobre juízos morais e predicação moral, então parece ser necessário que elas sejam especificadas sem referência aos próprios juízos morais e ao vocabulário valorativo moral. O problema da atitude moral consiste neste desafio ao projetivismo moral. Neste artigo, argumentaremos que, por um lado, o projetivista não é capaz de escapar inteiramente da objeção da circularidade. Porém, por outro lado, tentaremos mostrar como, apesar de incorrer em uma forma de circularidade, o projetivista possui uma resposta ao problema da atitude moral. O resultado disso é que, adequadamente concebido, o problema da atitude moral não é um obstáculo ao projetivismo e que a formulação tradicional do problema confunde uma questão epistêmica com uma questão metafísica.
