L’évocation, au tout début de La Chartreuse de Parme, d’une caricature politique de Gros n’a pas suscité beaucoup de curiosité chez les stendhaliens. Il a d’ailleurs fallu attendre 2016 pour que les historiens d’art constatent chez Gros la moindre velléité de cette sorte. Cette note éclaircit, d’une part, cet aspect, et analyse, d’autre part, la fonction de cette évocation inattendue au milieu de l’ouverture tumultueuse du roman.
