Abstract

The programmed and preventive excavations carried out on the Sagone site (South Corsica) have brought to light a small coastal agglomeration that developed at the turn of the 3rd and 4th centuries. It consists of a reception and service building, spaces dedicated to commercial transactions and living areas. It is also the site of productive and artisanal activities, but their economic importance appears to be secondary. The rich archaeological record suggests that during Late Antiquity this port played the role of a regional hub, closely connected to the maritime trade networks. In the first half of the 5th century, the buildings were abandoned or transformed and the settlement became a religious centre.
