The following paper aims at highlighting the main moments of Heinrich Rickert’s French reception during the 20th century. First of all, this reception takes place into the epistemological debates regarding historical sciences and social sciences constitution, as we shall see through the Lacombe and Xenopol’s controversy. The second aspect of Rickert’s French reception concerns his philosophy of values and its link with his epistemological positions. This aspect of the reception will be embodied by two main readers of Rickert’s philosophy: Georges Gurvitch and Raymond Aron, the two of them, each in his own way, criticising Rickert’s values theory formalism. Even though the philosophical discussions regarding Rickert’s philosophy remain quite rare, they are nevertheless a relevant indicator of the philosophical, historical and sociological debates of the time.
