À partir d’une approche de temps long, cet article propose un bilan sur la « question mapuche » dans le Chili du début du XXIe siècle – en particulier dans le contexte de la célébration du Bicentenaire de l’indépendance qui conduit à l’émergence de nouveaux questionnements identitaires. Il met l’accent sur la tension fondamentale qui existe entre la modernité avancée que revendiquent les élites chiliennes et les dynamiques d’expression d’une identité propre que porte le monde mapuche, ainsi que sur les divers refoulements dont la part indienne du Chili est l’objet.
