En invoquant les savoirs scientifiques de l’époque sur l’humeur mélancolique et en confrontant ces derniers aux représentations plastiques de la mélancolie, cet article met à jour de multiples corrélations entre rire et mélancolie tissées par l’écriture de La Celestina. Cette étude propose une lecture du personnage de Celestina à travers le prisme de la mélancolie et met en évidence les multiples connivences du texte avec la tradition des tableaux de vanité, eux-mêmes construits, comme le personnage, sur la double tension entre rire et mélancolie, exaltation des plaisirs de la vie et rappel de la mort prochaine, invitation à la joie et douloureuse conscience de la finitude des choses.
