Las múltiples dimensiones de la bioculturalidad en la comarca de Gunayala (Panamá): ontologías, saberes, políticas

Abstract

La noción de diversidad biocultural o bioculturalidad remite a una sinergia entre la conservación de la biodiversidad, por un lado, y la diversidad cultural representada por los pueblos indígenas, por el otro. Se trata de una noción atravesada por cadenas y redes de traducción en la que intervienen múltiples actores, entre ellos: científicos, políticos, activistas, funcionarios e indígenas. En este artículo nos proponemos conectar el uso de esta noción con la complejidad del sistema de conocimiento guna. Un sistema, caracterizado por la coexistencia de tratados espirituales y normas negociadas, que ilustra los diferentes “modos de existencia” de la bioculturalidad. A partir de un análisis crítico de la idea de bioculturalidad, en un primer momento describimos los diferentes “modos de existencia” de la bioculturalidad en función de las relaciones cotidianas de los gunas con su medio ambiente, a continuación nos adentrarnos a la historia de su lucha por la autonomía y los diálogos que desde hace décadas este pueblo mantiene con representantes de la comunidad científica (mayoritariamente biólogos y antropólogos), y finalmente, abordamos la participación guna en la definición de políticas en el ámbito nacional e internacional.
