Abstract

En 1826, Jean-Alexandre Buchon réédite le monument scientifique fondateur des études françaises sur la Grèce franque, l’Histoire de l’Empire de Constantinople sous les empereurs françois, publiée par Charles Du Fresne Du Cange en 1657. Si l’année 1826 paraît propice à l’exhumation du récit des chevaliers francs en Grèce au Moyen Âge, l’œuvre, vieille de deux cents ans, ne peut être transmise au lectorat du xixe siècle dans sa version initiale. À travers une comparaison serrée de l’imprimé annoté de 1657 et de l’édition de 1826, on dévoile les circonstances qui poussent Buchon à rééditer ce monument, ainsi que les modifications apportées au texte. Au terme de l’analyse, on peut évaluer la place de cette réédition dans la construction du champ disciplinaire au xixe siècle.
