Esclavitud de indios, servidumbre de indios

Abstract

Este trabajo compara la Real Cédula de 1601 dirigida al Virrey Velasco sobre el servicio personal de los indios, con los Tres pareceres Graves en Derecho de Fray Agía de 1604, enfocándose en el problema en torno a la toma de decisiones dentro de la monarquía consultiva. Se analiza cómo Fray Agía diferenciaba los tipos de trabajos a los que estaban lícitamente obligados los indios. Finalmente, se explora el concepto de República de Indias, donde españoles e indígenas debían integrar un mismo cuerpo místico, en el que unos estaban destinados a mandar y otros a servir.
