En los últimos veinticinco años, Uruguay ha transitado el camino del reconocimiento de su multiculturalidad étnico-racial histórica, a partir de la generación de políticas públicas de reconocimiento y redistribución orientadas a poblaciones afro e indígenas. Estas concreciones, que es necesario profundizar y ampliar, han sido producto de las demandas de los colectivos organizados, que bregaron por mostrar la multiculturalidad presente en el repertorio cultural del país y sus aportes, que han permanecido en la sociedad uruguaya a lo largo del tiempo.
