La técnica de la lectura oral se basa en que el lector reconozca cada entidad léxica, y que luego la reproduzca oralmente con la fonética indicada por la forma fonológica especificada en su entrada léxica (sin preocuparse por la forma gráfica). Es probable que hace mil años haya sido así también, cuando los textos que ahora nos parecen latinos debían reproducirse oralmente con la fonética iberorrománica usual de las mismas palabras del texto.
