This special issue focusing on human factors perspectives on Highly Automated Driving (HAD). It is our desire that this special issue should serve as a first step toward the definition of a research domain centered on and dedicated to humantechnology relationships. These relationships are at the center of our cognitive processes and should be considered as such, rather than as an expression of a subset of them. In this review, an attempt was made to propose a state of the art by classifying the obtained Human Factors knowledge gained on the basis of the human cognitive processes addressed. Five broad areas of study were proposed in order to classify the investigations reported in the scientific literature on HAD (Navarro, 2019a): investigations related to drivers' attention, distraction and fatigue, investigation related to workload and situation, to behavioral adaptations, to trust in automation and to HAD acceptance. awareness.
