La « belle mort » ou la mort du corps mort

Abstract

C’est au visible caché, à la pudeur et à la honte que se noue la question de voir le corps du mort, d’aller voir du côté du fantasme lié au mort. Si la sexualité semble moins voilée qu’à l’époque classique, la mort, elle, est devenue taboue et se replie dans la sphère privée, l’intimité psychologique, ce que Philippe Ariès appelle « l’ensauvagement de la mort ». Avec Flaubert écrivant la mort d’Emma Bovary, les images de la décomposition du corps et de la mort font survivre une iconographie refoulée, « auréolée ». Le procès en censure contre Madame Bovary est à cet égard emblématique de la répression de la société sur la représentation de la mort.
