Construire la cohésion familiale : les relations coparentales dans les familles recomposées

Abstract

Une relation coparentale soutenante est au cœur de la cohésion familiale, celle-ci constituant un contexte de développement favorable pour l’enfant. Nous connaissons encore peu la relation coparentale entre parent gardien, souvent la mère, et son nouveau partenaire dans les familles recomposées, et en quoi cette relation ressemble (ou non) à la relation coparentale entre mère et père. L’étude présentée dans cet article s’est intéressée aux comportements coparentaux rapportés par les mères dans des familles recomposées et dans des familles de première union. Trois dimensions coparentales ont été prises en compte : la promotion de l’unité familiale, le dénigrement et les conflits. Les mères (N = 300) ont évalué par questionnaire leur relation coparentale, ainsi que leur modèle d’attachement et leur satisfaction conjugale. La moitié de ces mères vivaient en famille recomposée avec au moins un enfant entre 5 et 13 ans issu d’une union précédente ; l’autre moitié vivait dans une famille de première union avec un enfant de la même tranche d’âge. Les résultats montrent que les relations coparentales ont des caractéristiques similaires dans les deux types de familles, mais qu’il y a également des différences qui sont importantes à prendre en compte, notamment dans le travail clinique avec des parents qui ont reconstitué une nouvelle famille.
