La inacusatividad en los verbos meteorológicos en español: un análisis comparativo de llover y amanecer

Abstract

Se suele aceptar que los verbos meteorologicos pertenecen a la categoria de los verbos inacusativos. El presente articulo examina esta postura con base en un estudio empirico del comportamiento semantico y sintactico de llover y amanecer. Aunque nuestros datos revelan que ambos verbos se utilizan en una paleta de construcciones sintacticas muy heterogeneas, mostramos que en efecto se comportan fundamentalmente como verbos inacusativos. Sin embargo, queda manifiesto que no forman un conjunto homogeneo: llover funciona basicamente como un verbo de cambio de ubicacion, mientras que amanecer se asemeja a los verbos de aparicion. Arguimos que la diferencia semantica entre ambos tipos de verbos inacusativos permite explicar las diferentes construcciones sintacticas en que aparecen: llover tiene usos inergativo y transitivo, mientras que amanecer se utiliza a veces en construcciones copulativas.
