DEPRESSÃO PÓS-PARTO: CARACTERIZAÇÃO SOBRE SEUS SINAIS E SINTOMAS

Abstract

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a condition that encompasses a variety of physical and emotional changes common in women after giving birth. This pathology has become recurrent in recent years, being considered a public and social health problem. Thus, the objective of this study was to know how PPD has been manifesting itself in postpartum women over the years, such as the symptoms, risk factors, diagnoses, and ways of treating this psychosis. The study design took place through an integrative review, using as main databases: Google Scholar, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), and Virtual Health Library (BVS), from 2005 to 2017. The results demonstrated that there is a significant prevalence of the disease in puerperal women, particularly those who do not receive support, from either family or specialists. Having as aggravating factors of the patient's condition, histories of depression, rape, and addictions. It is also verified that the absence of breastfeeding compromises the mother-child relationship, making it harmful to the mental health of the puerperal woman and the integral development of the child. From this perspective, there must be preventive interventions, as well as Primary Health Care, so that the prevalence of this pathology can be mitigated.
