Abstract

Książka Tomasza Kubikowskiego Zjdanie psów (Warszawa 2019) łączy opowieść o dziewiętnastowiecznych wyprawach polarników – Johna Rossa, Williama Edwardav Parry’ego, Johna Franklina, Elishy Kane’a i Fridtjofa Nansena – z pogłębioną koncepcją performasu jako Schechnerowskiego „zachowanego zachowania”. Świetnie napisana, nieledwie powieść podróżniczo-przygodowa, przedstawia podbój Arktyki jako swego rodzaju serię widowisk, które ważność społeczną zawdzięczały opowieściom; bez opowieści właściwie nie warto było pchać się pod biegun i wszyscy wymienieni podróżnicy takie opowieści pozostawili. Autor książki traktuje je jako opowieści antropologiczne, „opowieści o cudzych przeżyciach”; odczytuje z nich także to, z czego podróżnicy nie zdawali sobie sprawy – na przykład to, że tubylcy i ich kultura byli dla przybyszów kompletnie przezroczyści. Zaplecze teoretyczne książki jest dość skomplikowane – autor performatyką zajmuje się od blisko dwudziestu lat; ale całość została (świadomie) napisana tak, by i ci, którzy nie lubią teorii, mogli się nią cieszyć.
