Abstract

Artykuł poświęcony historii dokumentacji fotograficznej teatru polskiego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem fotografii dziewiętnastowiecznej i pierwszych dekad XX wieku. Autor rozpoczyna od omówienia najstarszej polskiej fotografii teatralnej – datowanego na lata 1840–1850 dagerotypu przedstawiającego aktorkę Leontynę Żuczkowską-Halpertową w kostiumie scenicznym. Następnie omawia rozwój fotografii teatralnej w powiązaniu z technikami fotograficznymi. Analizuje rozwój fotografii w atelier (indywidualne portrety aktorów – prywatne i w kostiumach, sceny grupowe) i na scenie (od końca XIX w.). Wśród omawianych w artykule fotografów, z których zakładów pochodzą najważniejsze dla historii teatru polskiego zdjęcia, są: Karol Beyer, Konrad Brandel, Jan Mieczkowski, Maurycy Pusch, Aleksander Karoli, Edward Troczewski, Walery Rzewuski. Autor charakteryzuje styl polskich dziewiętnastowiecznych fotografów i podkreśla wysoki poziom ich prac potwierdzany nagrodami w konkursach międzynarodowych. Problematyzuje także sposoby wykorzystywania dziewiętnastowiecznych zdjęć jako dokumentów. Artykuł zawiera bogaty materiał ikonograficzny.
