Abstract

Para una semiótica del cuerpo interesada en los conceptos de “marca” y de “huella”, la manifestación de la piel en la obra de arte puede ofrecer un espacio fecundo de reflexión. Así lo intenta demostrar este artículo, en el cual se analizan detenidamente tres esculturas que pertenecen a la instalación titulada La transparencia de Dios, del artista cubano Juan Francisco Elso (1956-1988). Son precisamente las marcas inscritas en la superficie de las esculturas las que nos sugieren, perceptualmente, una doble posibilidad semiótica: la de considerar la obra en su totalidad como una impronta fenoménica, carnal, o como una envoltura que negocia su propia carnalidad a partir de un proceso de cicatrización de la piel herida. De ahí la ambigüedad contenida en la superficie de estas mismas esculturas entre una herida “a flor de piel” y una herida transformada en cicatriz. La incierta cicatrización de la herida en el “cuerpo de la obra” es lo que permite, finalmente, evidenciar un desequilibrio en la formalización del sentido y, por tanto, concebir la semiosis como un proceso “no formal”. Es decir, hacer que el cuerpo propio funcione como operador corporal de la reunión entre el plano del contenido y el plano de la expresión.
