Abstract

This dissertation investigates the photorealistic image of architecture as a highly realistic and photography-like representation of architecture using computer graphics. The computer-generated photorealistic visualization plays a unique role in project communication, serving as a tool for the design process, mean of representation and presentation. The interdisciplinary nature of architecture, design, painting, photography, and computer graphics is essential in addressing the complex challenges associated with creating these images. The study, encompassing both practical and theoretical approaches, explores the processes of lighting, materials, camera, and three-dimensional modeling as fundamental elements in understanding the virtual environment in which architectural simulations are photographed virtually. Examining the complexity and nuances of the photorealistic image, one could argue that there are affinities with the act of designing architecture, as a type of architecture of images. The study also examines the thoughts and issues arising from photorealistic images within the context and practice of architecture.
