The decline in the spiritual importance of Holy Communion in the Evangelical Mission Church of Indonesia (GMII) Hosana Congregation in Makassar shows a shift in understanding this sacrament. Its meaning has moved from theological and spiritual significance to being viewed as just a symbolic and liturgical routine. As a result, the congregation now has a weakened appreciation for grace, communion with Christ, and their overall spiritual life. This study uses a literature review with a historical-theological approach. It combines historical analysis and theological insight to understand how doctrine, practice, and beliefs surrounding this sacrament have developed. The theories applied include the concepts of liturgy and spirituality in Christian theology, drawing on the views of the Reformers. These views highlight the importance of theological meaning and spiritual experience in celebrating the sacrament. The findings show that the main reasons for the loss of spirituality include a lack of thorough theological teaching, the impact of modern consumer culture, and liturgical reforms that adapt too closely to the congregation's preferences without preserving the essence of sacredness. These insights stress the need for the church to refocus on the spiritual and theological significance of Holy Communion. This can be achieved through liturgical renewal and deeper faith formation within the congregation. In conclusion, it is crucial to restore the sacrament's meaning as a divine experience so that Holy Communion continues to be the center of a vibrant and meaningful spiritual life.
