La petite exploitation agricole au Chili. Front populaire-gouvernement militaire (1938-1979)

Abstract

La petite exploitation agricole chilienne a subi durant les quarante dernières années tous les contrecoups du développement économique et social du pays. Subordonnée à la hacienda jusqu'en 1962, elle devient dès lors dépendante des coopératives ou des industries agroalimentaires mises en place par les réformes destinées à moderniser l'agriculture (1962-1973). Mais dans ce cadre, rares sont les minifundios qui parviennent à survivre, bien qu'ils fournissent l'essentiel de la production alimentaire de base des couches rurales et urbaines les plus pauvres. L'exode rural s'accélère en dépit de la saturation du marché urbain du travail depuis 1950. Les formes de travail précaire se multiplient. Les migrants s'installent sur de petits lots à la périphérie des villes où ils constituent un sous-prolétariat rural qui ne survit que grâce à la pluriactivité, cependant que la terre se concentre entre les mains d'une couche aisée.
