Abstract

La gymnastique (daoyin) est une technique du corps au même titre que les danses, les rituels et la sexualité. Elle est attestée en Chine depuis l'antiquité comme moyen thé¬ rapeutique et/ou comme technique d'entretien du principe vital (yangsheng), voire de longévité. Pour cette période, cette pratique nous est mieux connue depuis quelques décennies, grâce à la découverte des documents archéologiques exhumés de Mawang-dui (Hunan), Zhangjiashan (Hubei), Shuihudi (Hubei), qui viennent s'ajouter aux men¬ tions éparses du daoyin dans la littérature des lettrés comme dans la littérature spécia¬ lisée médicale et taoïste. Plusieurs éléments laissent percevoir une origine chamanique du daoyin, notamment les similitudes avec les danses anciennes, l'importance du thème animalier, et les fonctions du déplacement du corps dans l'espace. Les postures du corps avaient une fonction apotropaïque et protégeaient des mauvaises influences extérieures ; elles permettaient aussi d'attirer, pour les expulser, les mauvaises influen¬ ces qui avaient pénétré le corps. Ces techniques gymniques ont été intégrées par les médecins à d'autres techniques thérapeutiques ; elles ont été pratiquées par les adeptes du Dao ou par ceux qui se réclamaient de la tradition des immortels (xian) tels que Chisongzi, Pengzu ou Wang Ziqiao, en complément de techniques respiratoires, de régimes diététiques et de pratiques sexuelles.
