Abstract

Os Sumários de Crónicas foram um género muito cultivado em Portugal nos finais da Idade Média e princípios da Época Moderna. Apesar disso, não suscitaram ainda o interesse dos investigadores. Este trabalho constitui, assim, a primeira tentativa de sistematização do corpus de Sumários de Crónicas portugueses. Propõe também uma análise de conjunto destes textos e dos seus paratextos, destacando as suas relações com as crónicas medievais e o papel por eles desempenhado na construção e difusão de um discurso providencialista ao serviço da monarquia.
