Impersonalidad y ergatividad en el español medieval y clásico

Abstract

La forma latina en «-or», represntante de un sincretismo morfológico de cuatro posibles categorías conceptuales existentes en latín (impersonalidad, pasividad, refl exividad y reciprocidad), provocó la necesidad de distinciones posteriores en los romances latentes y motivó la creación de cuadros sistemáticos divergentes en las distintas lenguas románicas. Este trabajo viene a demostrar que los diferentes signifi cados sintácticos y semánticos anunciados para las construcciones con «se» español no son más que el resultado de considerar lo no agentivo en la posición del sujeto. Los valores que habitualmente se asignan a estas construcciones proceden de manifestaciones contextuales y no de verdaderos efectos sistemáticos. Por esta razón, en vez de hablar de cómo el español desarrolla discursivamente las posibilidades funcionales de la lengua latina, analizamos la distinción tipológica — realizada en el seno de la lingüística alemana de los años treinta— entre lenguas con esquema agentivo y lenguas con estructura no agentiva (o de «sentimiento»). Los primeros refl ejos en el castellano medieval se cristalizan en construcciones impersonales y evolucionan a otras manifestaciones que son no más que correlatos designativos de la impersonalidad. El caso del castellano invita a ajustes entre los demás elementos del sistema («ser y estar», «posesión», «partitivo», etc.), que harán que esta lengua presente un desarrollo evolutivo funcional distinto a sus hermanas románicas.
