Les hourds du château de Forges (Concrémiers, Indre) et leur contexte berrichon

Abstract

Une récente analyse archéologique détaillée des vestiges de hourds du château de Forges, étayée par des analyses dendrochronologiques systématiques, a révélé un certain nombre de faits éclairant la question de la fortification des châteaux berrichons au milieu et dans la seconde moitié du XVe siècle. Autorisée en 1442, la construction et la fortification de ce château s'étale en fait globalement sur près de trente ans. La mise en place des hourds fixes sur le logis à quatre tours ne se fera que six années au moins après l'autorisation, relativisant ainsi leur caractère véritablement défensif à une époque où les troubles liés aux Grandes compagnies ont cessé. Leur caractère plus ostentatoire que véritablement militaire est confirmé par la reconstruction à l'identique de l'un d'entre eux vers 1662. Le contexte régional a montré dans la seconde moitié du XVe siècle la fréquence certaine des hourds fixes construits dans les châteaux du Berry selon les mêmes procédés techniques.
