Abstract

ABSTRACT This article, devoted to curved-backed points, reviews the data with the support of maps, from their very early appearance about 13500 BP, with Proto-Valorgian (presence of the cold steppe antelope Saïga tatarica), down to their disappearance, about 10000 BP. The issue of rein-deer leaving for the North is brought up again. Following various excavations, mainly un Northern France and the Parisian Basin, and the new data from different sites (Gônnersdorf, Brugglihôhle, etc.), it seems more and more obvious that the phenomenon must be situated in the 12500- 12400 BP period. All these elements encourage reconsideration of the problem of the distribution of curved- backed points over our territory.
