La tuberculose vertébrale en Egypte et Nubie ancienne

Abstract

Resume. — Deux cas de tuberculose vertebrale ont ete recemment trouves au cours des fouilles archeologiques tchecoslovaques a Abusir pres du Caire lors de l'etude du materiel anthropologique provenant des fouilles autrichiennes a Sayala en Nubie egyptienne. L'interet de ces cas reside dans leur extraordinaire etendue et dans leurs stades de developpement opposes. Le cas nubien date de la periode chretienne VIe-XIe siecles apres Jesus- Christ concerne un jeune homme decede a l'âge de 22-24 ans. Il s'agit d'un processus lytique aigu et progressif interessant tout le rachis thoracique et lombaire, mais predominant a l'etage T10-L1 ou s'est produite une double cyphose angulaire de 140°. Le cas egyptien date du Moyen-Empire (12e dynastie) a ete trouve chez un homme âge de 40-55 ans. Il est caracterise par une bosse de 130° plutot curviligne causee par la destruction et la fusion des corps vertebraux T9-L1 et la deformation du corps T8. Le tissu osseux est completement gueri et se sont developpees des adaptations de la position du rachis. Les problemes du diagnostic differentiel et de la signification de ces cas sont discutes dans le cadre de nos connaissances sur la tuberculose vertebrale en Egypte et Nubie ancienne.
