
AS A "WISDOM-RELIGION" with marked mystical concerns, theosophy has been rooted from time immemorial in the history of mankind, and its original religious beliefs and practices. As a speculative system with both religious and philosophical implications, however, theosophy can be traced back to Plato, and to such early mystical movements and esoteric doctrines as Orphism and pre-Christian gnosticism.
