What is scenography? Is there a feminist lesbian perspective in scenography? to begin with, feminist and lesbian approaches to theatre aren’t necessarily working in unision. Feminist theatre artists have frequently excluded or denigrated the lesbian artist and audience in text, the press, and in performance. Their homophobia seems reactionary: they fear being labelled “lesbian” by critics as if it’s the bubonic plague or it invalidates their work. Lesbian thespians, on the other hand, are not all feminist or are separatist, and this is often perceived as a betrayal of extremism. Yes, sisterhood is dysfunctional and, moreover, diverse. There is no common aesthetic approach in feminist/lesbian theatre but there are some shared attributes. As the only known feminist lesbian scenographer in captivity, I feel like a theatrical dodo.
