On a clear, sunny and crisp second day of January the arts community in Toronto paused to pay tribute to a fallen leader. Urjo Kareda (1944–2001) had died of cancer in late December and a memorial service at the Bloor Street United Church saw a standing-room-only gathering of actors, playwrights, designers, administrators, arts patrons, educators and theatre critics come together with Kareda’s family and friends to pay tribute to this remarkable talent.
