Chomsky's proposition that language is handled by a language-specific faculty needs more justification. In language acquisition in particular, it is still in question whether the faculty is necessary or not. We succeeded in explaining one constraint on language acquisition in terms of a general learning mechanism. This paper describes a machine learning system Rhea applied to the domain of language acquisition and shows that Rhea can learn the tendency which children confronting new words seem to have.
