Abstract

The author, writing in a personal capacity, describes the need to see the patient, or service user, as a whole person. Whatever their background and training, the professional's task is to listen to patients' views and to support them in their attempt to attain their desired lifestyle. This may mean accepting an integration of very different therapies and approaches.
