Abstract

EnglishDon Quixote, one of the most important books in universal literature, is unknown for Spanish students. Not only they do not know the story in detail, but also they have negative prejudices about the book. The objectives established in this research are: know the opinion and knowledge students have about the book and bring them into it. This experience is carried out with students of 5th grade of Primary Education: before reading the children theatrical adaptation of this book, they complete the first part of the thinking routine “I used to think…Now I think…” and, after reading it, they fill the second part in. The results show the negative prejudices towards this literary work and the ignorance about it; they knew very few about the main characters. All these change radically after reading the play, because they found the book interesting, they enjoyed and learnt a lot about it. Literary adaptations of classic books help knowing the books and putting their prejudices about this type of literature aside.
