Abstract

El calo es el idioma mixto desarrollado por los gitanos entre los siglos XV y XVIII a partir de un lexico derivado del romani que se articula mediante la morfosintaxis del castellano (o del catalan, el vasco o el portugues en sus otras variedades). Las evidencias apuntan a la paulatina desaparicion de esta lengua en los dos ultimos siglos, pero apenas tenemos datos de su conocimiento ni su uso actual entre sus hablantes originarios. Para empezar a llenar este vacio hemos disenado un cuestionario que contiene un listado de 355 terminos de calo con su equivalencia castellana, y lo hemos aplicado en 84 entrevistas realizadas en Andalucia a personas que se definen como gitanos. En este segundo articulo ofrecemos un modelo de los principales niveles de conocimiento y competencia de calo, y de los ambitos sociales donde se transmite este idioma.
