AbstractIn this article, Cooks examines quilts is echoed in the work of other contemporary artists. She analyzes how references to the how the aesthetic of Gee's Bend quilts lend Black credibility to the art that has the potential to critically comment on the history of race, poverty, and social injustice in America.
